National Coming Out DayDay of Silence and Break the SilenceOur Inaugural Day of Silence is over! Our first organized Day of Silence got over a hundred people sign up - success!
This year's Day of Silence and Break the Silence Dance exceeded expectations. Next year will be even better! What is the Day of Silence?
The Day of Silence is a way for us, as a school community, to
support the people in our community and the victims of bullying and anti-LGBTQ
harassment. It is the largest single student led action towards creating safer
schools for all. Many students, gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered and
queer (LGBTQ) and others feel forced into silence. Just as they're forced
to be silent about whom they are, on April 13th, we'll show our
support and challenge ourselves by remaining silent all day.
URI's Day of Silence will be April 19, 2013 |
