We got it in the category of best awareness group/event. Next year we'll also be aiming for Best Revamped group or something like that. It'll be awesome. I'd post a picture but my camera's dead. The Rammie looks like a skinny sheep and a bobbly head. Quite a silly looking Ram aren't you silly Rammie =D
This year, we were presented with our first Rammie! (It's supposed to be like a URI spin on the Grammy's but it's ok if you don't get it. It's just cool that we won.

I got an email today and we are a top contender!
They want us to send at least 1 representative to the event. From 6-7 will be a mocktail hour and the event begins at 7. Come and see us! Wow, I wasn't expecting so many great potential freshmen!
We had the GLBT Center and the GSA on the same table. Funny thing, the organisers of the event gave the table to the "GLBT Alliance" I guess there's a new club I've never heard. We handed out our buttons from our Day of Silence which happened the day earlier as well as materials from the Center like the "Do No Harm" stuff. Portia, Kevin, Alex P and Brian were there to answer any questions. Brian Stack (former President) came by as well and he was amazed at how much more attention and people came to our booth this year than last. It's a step foward for the future. Whew! After all that planning and work, Day of Silence has come and gone.
We've gotten over 120 signups and we haven't even finished counting. I guess free buttons are awesome and students love free stuff. As this is the first year URI has ever had a Day of Silence organized, this is impressive especially with the other events and end of semester coming by at the end of Greek Week. Next year will only be better. The Gay Straight Alliance (with an emphasis on the planning committee for the Protest in the Fall 2010 semester) won a Cultural Change award.
Unfortunately none of us had cameras but I'm sure there are pictures elsewhere. This will be the second award we've won this year - the other being the Martin Luther King Jr. Peacemaker Award. Starting today, the University of Rhode Island's GSA will have a website.
This site will be updated regularly with the meeting minutes and the things that are happening. |
